Watching gameplays by Youtubers such as Tobuscus, Pewdiepie, Markiplier and many more became one of my to-do leisure stuffs since I graduated from Matriculation and started watching Youtube. Some games are just too scary and intense that I......would rather watch others play (while enjoying that person being scared in the games hahaha). Yeah, the gameplays that I meant are those which are dark and sometimes bloody. I am not sure since when I fell for this genre as I am afraid even to watch horror movies, but I just couldn't resist these type of games, especially those with beautiful graphic and music, and a good storyline. The first two computer games that I have bought on Steam - Don't Starve and The Binding of Issac are both from that genre.
I don't usually buy computer games because they are somehow expensive to me. Fortunately there are quite a number of good computer games which are free to play on internet (I usually play them on Newgrounds) with my favourite genre. For this blog post, I would like to recommend this game named Gretel and Hansel made by makopudding. Hansel and Gretel is actually a German fairy tale about a brother and a sister who tried to go back home after being abandoned by their parents (a reluctant father and an evil stepmother) but encountered a witch who wanted to eat them. At the end they killed the witch and reunited with their father when their stepmother was dead. This story was modified into a game with the role of Hansel and Gretel reversed. Using mouse and arrows, you will control Gretel, the sister who try to survive with Hansel, the brother as the stepmother planning to drive them off into the forest.
In this game, you will need to collect ten coins by walking around and solving puzzles. Of course, plenty of bloody deaths await you ahead. Don't be afraid to die, you will unlock achievement while not having to replay the game upon dying, hahaha. I love the tiny details in the game where you will jump off the bed instead of walk off, and your expression will turn into a smile when you are standing near a bunny. The colours used are fairly simple, with a watercolour touch in it. About the puzzles, they are not very simple and yet not too difficult to the point that they are unsolvable, patience is needed definitely.
Since this game is the first part of the story, it ends at the point when the brother and sister are left in the forest. Gretel and Hansel 2 is the part two of the gameplay which is much more complicated and it begins by Gretel waking up in the forest. However, they just reached the witch's house at the end of the gameplay, which means there will be part three coming out. I know this game was out in 2013 which is 3 years ago but I really want to share it so that more people can play this amazing piece of work by a game developer. This is also a shout out to makopudding: WHERE IS PART THREE IT HAS BEEN SO LONG THERE IS NO UPDATE AT ALL WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?
While waiting for part three to be released, I hope you enjoy the first two parts of the story. Cheers~
(psst... This game is not suitable for children, so make sure you are of age before playing it.)
